Pregnancy Chiropractic

How can Chiropractic help during Pregnancy?

During pregnancy there are many hormonal and physical changes you’ll experience. With these changes happening it is likely that some of them will impact on your neuromusculoskeletal system in various ways. This can lead to postural changes  and discomfort through your spine and extremities. As your baby grows and develops within the womb, it is natural for your posture to change, which in turn will see your center of gravity shift. Many patients regularly visit our Chiropractors during their pregnancy, to address following common occurrences.

  • a protruding abdomen resulting in an increased curve of your lower back

  • changes to your pelvis as your body begins to prepare for labor

  • adaptations to your posture

Is Chiropractic beneficial for

There are many changes that will happen in the lead up to giving birth. However your pelvis will experience substantial changes, particularly hormonal changes. These changes are to assist in giving birth, given that increased joint mobility is required in giving birth. If the pelvis is not appropriately prepared it can lead to complications, resulting in a longer, more complicated delivery or C-Section being utilized.

Whilst  assisting in improving pelvic mobility and function is one factor that Chiroprators will address with pregnant patients, many patients will receive regular Chiropractic treatment whilst pregnant with the overall goal of improving their labor and delivery outcomes. These outcomes could be reduced labor times or avoiding use of forcep and vacuum tools.

In addition, regular chiropractic care while you’re pregnant can offer the following benefits:

  • help you maintain a healthier, more comfortable pregnancy

  • relieving pain in the back, neck, hips, and joints

  • help to control symptoms of nausea
